HEALING PLAYSCAPE
This project focuses on an indirect approach to healing with the goal of diffusing street hostility among the youth in Dar El Salam, Cairo.
The main challenges facing the slums of Dar El Salam is the lack of space and resources. The project aims to study the typology of current play- spaces and implementing them in a specific succession allowing the youth to embrace their potential to adapt to varying environmental conditions. The playscape is situated on the border of Dar El Salam, making it a place of escape when necessary, but close enough to home to feel comfortable and safe.
Each play zone is carefully placed keeping a certain progression in mind. The movement between play and mediation spaces- reflected through a succession of courtyards and open space- is meant to inspire introspection. Workshops for mothers are also provided as a space where they can carry out daily activities.
